Moulin de Malicorne

Our Villages and Local Attractions

Ste. Maure in 1750

Moulin de Malicorne straddles the border of two charming little villages--Ste. Maure de Touraine and St. Epain. Coincidentally, both have mayors named "Monsieur Barillet." Ste. Maure has about 5,000 residents.

Ste. Maure Goat Cheese

The town square is about two miles away--an easy bike ride from the moulin. Famous for its goat cheese and its outdoor book fairs, Ste. Maure boasts several excellent restaurants, delightful bakeries, a bank (with an ATM machine), and a bustling open-air farmer's market every Friday morning.

Troglodyte chapel

About a mile down the road in the Vallee de Courtineau is this 14th-century troglodyte chapel carved into the solid rock of the valley walls. Click the image to see a larger view.

Ste. Maure Book Fair

In town, you can explore the ruins of a 14th-century château. Just down the road from the moulin, there are ancient troglodyte dwellings and 4th-century tombs.

St. Epain has about 1,500 people, and the center of town is 4 or 5 miles from our moulin. The town is proud of its 12th-century church,15th- and 16th-century houses, and ancient city gate.
