Moulin de Malicorne
Our Villages and Local Attractions
Moulin de Malicorne straddles the border of two charming little villages--Ste. Maure de Touraine and St. Epain. Coincidentally, both have mayors named "Monsieur Barillet." Ste. Maure has about 5,000 residents. |
The town square is about two miles away--an easy bike ride from the moulin. Famous for its goat cheese and its outdoor book fairs, Ste. Maure boasts several excellent restaurants, delightful bakeries, a bank (with an ATM machine), and a bustling open-air farmer's market every Friday morning.

About a mile down the road in the Vallee de Courtineau is this 14th-century troglodyte chapel carved into the solid rock of the valley walls. Click the image to see a larger view.

In town, you can explore the ruins of a 14th-century château. Just down the road from the moulin, there are ancient troglodyte dwellings and 4th-century tombs.
St. Epain has about 1,500 people, and the center of town is 4 or 5 miles from our moulin. The town is proud of its 12th-century church,15th- and 16th-century houses, and ancient city gate.
